According to Cricbuzz, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are unlikely to be selected for the upcoming Asia Cup.

The final squad will be announced this week. BCCI sources have revealed that both players have not fully recovered from their injuries and are not fit enough to participate in the tournament, which will be held from August 30 to September 17.

Despite providing regular fitness updates on social media, BCCI insiders believe that it’s too early to include them in international cricket. However, there is still a chance for them to make a comeback and be considered for the World Cup squad if they recover completely. They might even make their return during the ODIs against Australia in September.

Their absence from the Asia Cup means that most of the players who featured in the ODIs against West Indies will be part of the squad. However, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, and Jasprit Bumrah, who is making a comeback, will also be included.

Prasidh Krishna, who is recovering from an injury, might miss out on selection.

Ishan Kishan, on the other hand, is ready for the Asia Cup and could be considered as a keeper-batsman for the World Cup if Rahul is also fit.

If Ishan plays, the team management will need to figure out the opening combination since Rohit Sharma will also be returning to the side. There is a possibility that Ishan and Rohit might open, while Shubman Gill could move down the order. The final team composition will be decided during the preparatory camp in Bengaluru from August 24 to 29. India’s first Asia Cup game is against Pakistan on September 2.

In the meantime, Jasprit Bumrah will lead India in the T20I series against Ireland, as per Cricbuzz. This marks Bumrah’s comeback after almost 11 months. The 29-year-old had been out of action due to injury and required surgery. He recently received clearance to play after undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA and has been training in Mumbai.

The squad for the T20I series includes some new faces, such as Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma, who had performed well in the IPL. Prasidh Krishna, who is returning from injury, is also part of the squad. India will play three T20Is against Ireland between the current West Indies tour (ending on August 13) and the Asia Cup (starting on August 30), with the series concluding on August 23.

Among the players from the T20I squad in West Indies, only Tilak Varma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Arshdeep Singh, Sanju Samson, Ravi Bishnoi, Mukesh Kumar, and Avesh Khan will be part of the squad for the Ireland series.

The promising news is that Bumrah has been bowling around 7 overs per day during his rehabilitation at the NCA, which is a positive development with the ODI World Cup just over two months away.

The schedule for the World Cup has been officially released. Bumrah had undergone back surgery due to a persistent niggle during the New Zealand tour in March, and he has been steadily recovering since then.
